BiographyVirginia L. “Ginny” Monroe, 63, passed away June 24, 2013, at her home in Memphis, Missouri.
She was born January 9, 1950, in Kirksville, Missouri, to Robert Edward and Josephine Elizabeth Franklin Simpson.
Ginny attended kindergarten at Clopton School in Clarksville, Missouri, then completed grade school and three years of high school at Unionville, Missouri before graduating in 1968 from Clopton School in Clarksville. She then attended Finger Lakes Community College at Canandaigua, New York where she attained an associate degree in Applied Science and Nursing in 1970.
She married Dr. Philip Brackett on August 26, 1973 in Unionville, Missouri and to this union a daughter was born. She married William Lynn Monroe on May 20, 2001 at the First Christian Church in Memphis.
As a registered nurse, Ginny lovingly touched the lives of everyone she came in contact with during her employment at Scotland County Hospital, Scotland County Care Center, Scotland County Health Department/Home Health Agency and most recently as the Health Nurse for the Scotland County R-1 Schools. She was the active coroner for Scotland County, a position she very adeptly served for 29 years.
She was a current member of the Missouri Coroners & Medical Examiners Association and a past member of Social Sorority Beta Sigma Phi, Rotary Club and the Missouri Nurses Association. She was a member of the First Christian Church in Memphis.
Ginny enjoyed fishing when time allowed but her favorite hobby was nursing and taking care of her family.
Ginny is survived by her husband, Lynn, of Memphis: her daughter, Amy Gaudette and her husband, Paul, of Kahoka, Missouri; two stepdaughters: Mary Ann Baker and her husband, Ken, of St. Louis, Missouri; Janis Brackett and her husband, Scott Cutlip, of Houston, Texas; three stepsons: Dustin Monroe and his wife, Tacey, of Arbela, Missouri; Devin Holt and his friend, Jessica Spray, of Arbela and Micheal Monroe and his wife, Julie, of Memphis; a granddaughter, Madigan Frederick, eleven step grandchildren: Gillian and Camille Baker, Seth Cutlip, Zach Winston, Brandon and Brett Monroe, Delsin and Tessa Holt, Eric Gaudette, Taunia Ourso and her husband, Nathan, Alyssa Buckert and her husband, Kyle and four step great grandchildren: Caden Gaudette, Skylar, Reese and Ryann Ourso. Also surviving is a brother, Bob “OJ” Simpson and his wife, Tracy, of Memphis; a brother-in-law, Kenny Monroe and his wife, Marsha, of Memphis; two aunts: Alice Cowell of Memphis; Mary Helen Simpson of Versailles, Missouri; an uncle, Clark Simpson and his wife, Mary Belle, of Rutledge, Missouri; five nieces, Taylar and Brooklynne Simpson, Melissa and Heather Monroe, Elizabeth Carper and her husband, Troy and Ginny’s “best friend forever,” Thelma Norton, of Memphis.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Bob and Jo Simpson and two uncles: Marion Cowell and Charles Simpson.
