Lois Thomas Branch, 83, Gorin, Missouri, died July 24, 2008 at Blessing hospital in Quincy, Illinois. She was born December 30, 1924 at Gorin, Missouri to Glynn Booth and Nellie Morris Thomas. She attended school at Gorin, Missouri and was a graduate of the class of 1942. She married her best friend, James Ernest Branch, on July 27, 1945 at the 4th Street Methodist Church in Fort Madison, Iowa and to this union three sons were born. James passed away December 12, 2007. Lois worked at the Schaffer Pen Company in Fort Madison, Iowa and taught cosmetology for several years. She and James served as volunteers for the Red Cross at Sterling, Illinois. She was a homemaker and a devoted caretaker for her husband when his health failed. She was a member of the Gorin United Methodist Church. She is survived by a son, Dwight A. (Tim) Branch and his wife, Terri, of Mt. Sterling, Iowa; three grandsons: Sean T. Branch and his wife, Terri, of Gorin, Missouri; Shane Alan Branch of Davenport, Iowa; Ashley Glynn Branch of Norfolk, Virginia and a granddaughter, Heather Branch, of San Francisco, California. Other survivors include a step-granddaughter, Maria Daughtry, of Maui, Hawaii; a step-grandson, Mitchell Pinson; two brothers: Jim Thomas of Memphis, Missouri and Gary Thomas and his wife, Sharon, of Libertyville, Illinois; three sisters-in-law: Sue Harvey and her husband, Charles, Luray, Missouri; Lela Thomas, Iowa and Barbara Thomas, Louisiana, nieces, nephews and many friends. Lois was preceded in death by her parents and her husband; two sons: Glynn Franke Branch and James David Branch and four brothers: Glynn Thomas, Jr., William Morris Thomas, John Mark Thomas and Arlen Tobe Thomas. An informal visitation for relatives and friends will be held on July 26, 2008 at the Memphis Funeral Home from 9 A.M. until 1 P.M. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. Memorials may be made to the Make A Wish Foundation or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital and may be mailed to or left at or mailed to Memphis Funeral Home at 378 South Market Street, Memphis, Missouri 62555.
