Robert L. (Bob) Chance, 49, Memphis, Missouri died Thursday, May 15, 2008 at Blessing Hospital in Quincy, Illinois from injuries received in a motorcycle accident. Bob was born November 4, 1958 at Kirksville, Missouri to Keith Coleman and Emma Lu Ludwick Chance. He attended Scotland County R1 School and was a graduate of the class of 1977. Following graduation, he attended the Wyoming Technical Institute in Laramie, Wyoming. Bob owned and operated an auto9 body shop in Sacramento, California before returning to Memplhis, Missouri where he owned and operated Chance's Automotive Body Shop. He married Barbara June Givens on July 14, 2001 at Memphis, Missouri. Bob was a man of great determination and wanted it known that he would always be available for people and firmly believed that you do something well or you don't do it at all. He enjoyed doing things for kids. He was an avid outdoors man and loved to hunt and fish as well as hunting for arrow heads. He also enjoyed motor cross dirt bikes and was a spectator of car racing. He is survived by his wife, Barbara, of Memphis, Missouri; his father, Keith Chance and his wife, Angel, of Memphis, Missouri; a son, Daniel Robert Chance of Sisters, Oregon; a step-son, Craig Swearingen and his wife, Sandra, of Memphis, Missouri; a step-daughter, Corie Atchley, of Novinger, Missouri; a grandson, Aiden Hunter Chance and six step-grandchildren; Cody Atchley, Cheyenne Atchley, Brent Michael Atchley, Landyn Swearingen, Justin Swearingen and Makyla Swearingen. Other survivors include two brothers; Steve Chance and his wife, Angela, of Memphis, Missouri; Jim Chance of Ponder, Texas; a sister, Wanetta Ludwig and her husband, Jaime, of Mt. Pleasant, Iowa; a step-brother, Dennis Patton and his wife, Cindy, of Colchester, Illinois; two step-sisters, Vicky Lynn Cummiskey of New Albany, Pennsylvania, Cindy Jo Green and her husband, Rick, of Dushore, Pennsylvania; his grandmother, Ruby Chance, of Memphis, Missouri; several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and many life long friends. He was preceded in death by his mother, Emma Lu Chance and grandparents. Funeral services will be held Sunday, May 18, 2008 at 2:00 P.M. at the Memphis Funeral Home with David Barton officiating. Music will be provided by Jackie Doubet and Sandra Swearingen. Burial will follow in Lawn Ridge Cemetery in rural Scotland County. Casket bearers will be Sam Johnson, Craig Swearingen, David Hanson, Bob Bradley, Dustin Howard and Mike Frederick. Honorary bearers will be Dennis Patton, Darrell Rudd, Greg Shelley, Danny Norton, Jeremy Sayre, Bryan Chance, Justin Chance and Coleman Chance. Memorials may be made to the Scotland County Fair Board or the Memphis FFA Scholarship Fund and may be left at or mailed to Memphis Funeral Home, 378 South Market Street, Memphis, Missouri 63555.
