Leonard E. Gordy was born May 23, 1924 at Downing, Missouri to George and Vera Gordy. Leonard served in the US Army, WW II from April 28, 1943 to December 16, 1945. He was a member of Co M 413th Inf 104th Division. Leonard was wounded in action November 1944 and received a Purple Heart. He married Donna Clyman at Bloomfield, Iowa June 17, 1948. To this union two children were born. They lived in Burlington, Iowa where he worked for IAAP as a supervisor from 1949 until 1974. They moved to Amarillo in 1974 where he worked for Pantex and retired as a supervisor in 1987. He was a member of the American Legion and Fraternal Order of the Elks in Iowa. Leonard was preceded in death by his parents.
Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Donna; a son M Neil Gordy of Houston, Texas and a daughter; Kathyl Jogerst and husband Dr. Gerald of Coralville, Iowa. He is also survived by a sister Inez Scott of Lubbock, Texas and two grandchildren. |

Funeral services were held Friday, December 14, 2007 at the Hillside Christan Church in Amarillo, Texas. Graveside services were held Tuesday, December 18, 2007 at the IOOF Cemetery Bloomfield, Iowa. Graveside military rites were given by the Reed-Whisler Post #78 American Legion of Bloomfield.
