Berneice Lancaster, 95, of Memphis, died June 5, 2007 at the Scotland County Care Center in Memphis, Missouri. She was born April 16, 1912 in Scotland County Missouri to Talmadge Delbert and Lena A. Meeks Wortman. Berneice was a homemaker, telephone operator, care giver, worked in several restaurants, and was a correspondent for area newspapers. She was very active with the OATS Bus, and the Scotland County Senior Center. She was a member of the Pleasant Grove Baptist Church where she was active with the Women's Missionary Group. Surviving her are her daughters, Margaret Shibley (George) of Cabot, Arkansas, Karen Smith of Memphis, Missouri, and Glada Shultz of Rutledge, Missouri; her sons, Jack Smock (Jeanne) of Farmington, Arkansas, Robert Smock (Marlyn) of Huntley, Illinois, Delbert Smock (Teresa) of Olive Branch, Mississippi, and Ronald Smock of Omaha, Nebraska. She is also survived by nine grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren, three great-great grandchildren, a niece, Carol Chadwick, and a nephew, Jerry Boone. Berneice was preceded in death by her parents, husband Albert Lancaster, two sisters, Bessie Cone, and Esther Boone, and a brother, Willis Wortman. Funeral services will be held at 3:00 PM Saturday, June 9, 2007 at the Pleasant Grove Baptist Church in Gorin, Missouri conducted by Rev. Jim Campbell. Burial will be in the Pleasant Grove Cemetery, Gorin, Missouri. Visitation will be open after noon on Friday, June 8, 2007 at the Memphis Funeral Home in Memphis, Missouri with the family present to receive friends from 6 until 8 pm. A memorial in Berneice's name has been established to the Pleasant Grove Baptist Church and may be left at or mailed to Memphis Funeral, 378 S. Market St. Memphis, MO 63555. |
