Donald "Dean" Childress, 76, passed away May 27, 2007 at "The Bluffs" in Columbia, Missouri following a long battle with congestive heart disease.
Dean was born March 4, 1931 to Lewis Lee and Eva Mary (Hayden) Childress in Lowell, Indiana. He married Geraldine Joan Inderski who preceded him in death. To this union were born seven children, Karen M. Miller and her significant other, David Brown of Columbia; Bruce Childress and his wife, Jeannie and Brian Childress and his wife, Diana of Memphis, Missouri; Gary Childress and his wife Barbee of Greentop, Missouri; Scott Childress of Pilot Grove, Missouri. Mr. Childress then married Sandra (Cook) Walden of Memphis and her children: Lynette Vassholtz and her husband, James of Memphis; Madrian Gibson and her husband, Monty; Todd Walden and Kyle Walden, all of Columbia, Missouri; Shelly Walden of Port Charlotte, Florida and Dyke Walden and his wife, Lisa of O'Fallon, Missouri. Also surviving are seventeen grandchildren, a great-grandson, a sister, Jeannette Ebert and her husband, Carlton of Milton, Iowa and a brother-in-law, Edward Inderski and his wife, Bettie of Bloomfield, Iowa.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Verna Kessell and a brother, Robert Childress.
Dean spent the majority of his life as an active farmer. The Childress family moved to Memphis in 1969 from Lowell, Indiana. He was the owner and operator of "Dean's Liquors." Public service was always a part of his life from serving on the Scotland Coounty R-1 School Board, Scotland County Nursing Home Board and his final position as Scotland County Associate Commissioner. After retiring in 2004, he spent his good day's outdoors--hunting, fishing or gardening.
